Nurturing Wellness Through Therapy
As a social worker and therapist, Rebecca Barrett provides therapeutic support to individuals with a variety of mental health and health issues, with a specific focus in supporting those impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
Together with her clients, Rebecca helps to explore their life’s narrative, identify and transform unhelpful patterns and coping, and process difficult past and present-day challenges. At Embodied Healing, she works collaboratively to identify strategies to foster a healthier relationship to self and others and to promote overall wellbeing. She assists clients in building awareness of their mind-body connection in order to process experiences and emotions and to gain tools to help foster a sense of safety in the body in order to regulate their nervous system.

Rebecca has unique expertise in offering support to young adults, adults and older adults diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers. Rebecca also has experience in supporting adults who were diagnosed with cancer in childhood or adolescence, some of whom may be coping with late effects of cancer treatment, and women diagnosed with cancer during or after pregnancy. Professional Profile
Clinical Experience
Prior to private practice, Rebecca worked as an oncology social worker within the cancer centres at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Mount Sinai Hospital in downtown Toronto. Rebecca worked with the interdisciplinary team including but not limited to oncologists, palliative care physicians, oncology psychiatrists and oncology nurses to support patients with cancer and their families. Rebecca was also a part of the High Risk Pregnancy program for women diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy. Rebecca supported patients by offering resource counselling, patient education, psychosocial support and counselling.

Rebecca has also worked at the community level. She previously facilitated the Caregiver Support Group at Gilda's Club Greater Toronto and continues to offer her services to Wellspring's Short Term Counselling program.

Sharing Insights on Cancer Care

Rebecca contributed to the psychosocial module for the Breast Cancer in Pregnancy educational modules for nurses and medical professionals caring for women diagnosed with breast cancer during pregnancy. These modules were formulated by the medical experts at Mount Sinai Hospital's High Risk Pregnancy program, a collaborative effort between the Oncology and Obstetrics departments.

Rebecca and her palliative care colleagues collaborated on a project featured in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, highlighting the implementation of a Caregiver Support Clinic within the Oncology department at Mount Sinai Hospital. This quality improvement initiative focused on the benefits of joint palliative care and social work support to caregivers of patients with advanced cancer.
